“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”

Luke 6:27-28 ESV

I don’t put that there to trigger you, but to show forgiveness takes a strength beyond yours, and the sobering truth that Jesus came to die for his enemies.

He drew near to a world in denial of our total disregard for his authority, power, and love.

He knows you don’t forgive based on warm, fuzzy feelings.

It’s a decision to be other and to do other than was done to you.

It is the ultimate “boss” move and the only way to live free of reacting to other people’s behavior.

The same Jesus who rose from the dead wants to raise you up from your pit of despair.

He wants to you rise above what meant to take you out. But chained eagles can’t soar. Will you stop sabotaging your future with bitterness over your past?

Forgiveness doesn’t free the one who hurt you from responsibility for their wrong or the consequences for their actions. And it doesn’t mean restoring the relationship. That may not be safe or desirable on either end.

But even if they don’t pay in ways you get to see and appreciate, when you forgive your offender, you’re free to truly live. And isn’t that worth it?

I’m rooting for you…
